Artist, Katy Parnello, is a self-taught wood worker specializing in Electroliers, re-purposed wood wall hangings, which act as fixtures for holding electric lights. Departing from her comfort zone in performance, Katy first ventured into wood working by making furniture for her empty apartment. Once she finished her first table, she desired to give the piece a way to communicate. Her solution was to add incandescent lights on a dimmer so the mood of the table could change with the climate of the space. She transferred this concept to wall hangings, which helps to display the beautiful textures and unique quirks of the re-purposed wood.
Katy splits her time between Brooklyn, NY and Telluride, CO, using locally sourced wood wherever each piece is created. This roots the pieces in their unique heritage and brings a historical connection and soul to her work.
