SPRING, SPRANG, SPRUNG: Highlighting Texas Artists Kathy Ratterree & Katherine Lott

Details:
Location: Telluride
Date: March 2, 2017
Time: 5 - 8pm

Slate Gray Gallery is highlighting Texas artisans Kathy Ratterree & Katherine Lott this March. Jewelry Artist, Kathy Ratterree (Houston, TX), started her artistic endeavors through interior design for clients in both Houston, TX and Vail, CO. However, her passion for creating jewelry was inspired by her love and respect for vintage Italian rosaries and Malas. For centuries all types of beads have been used not only for prayer, but also for comfort. In Kathy's own experience, touching and holding beads have helped to calm and comfort the wearer. Kathy has combined this positive experience with edgy fashion in her new line using materials such as Sandal Wood, Labradorite & Diamonds. Artist, Katherine Lott (Fredericksburg, TX), is the most sought after and commissioned artist carried at Slate Gray Gallery. Her modern art is filled with lines, layers and textures imbuing the surface beauty with depth, character, strength and wisdom. Inspired by Southwest horizons & landscapes, Katherine has become popular amongst home owners and interior designers. Katherine Lott has been creating and exploring from a very young age. Her creative instincts precede all other everyday needs or wants. Lott works in a number of mediums including textiles, clay & paper.

October Art Walk: ‘Elemental’ by Niki Woehler

Details:
Location: Telluride
Date: October 6, 2016
Time: 5 - 8pm

Artist Niki Woehler is rapidly becoming one of the most collectible artists in the West. Her modern and abstract paintings are filled with lines, layers and textures that invade smooth façades and imbue surface beauty with depth, character, strength and wisdom. Slate Gray Gallery will be exhibiting ‘Elemental’ for the month of October. ‘Elemental’ is Woehler’s collection of paintings inspired by objects that have been ravaged by nature and the participating elements. Highly textured, Woehler’s works are comprised of materials such as acrylics, metal, graphite, amethyst, quartz and pyrite. She rarely uses brushes, opting instead for a variety of untraditional tools like trowels and rakes to evoke sensational layers. Woehler is drawn to imperfect details, and she longs to tell stories resonant of the beauty of weathered time: a perspective magnified or obscured by rain, eroded rocks and metal etched with rust.

January Art Walk

Details:
Location: Telluride
Date: January 7, 2016
Time: 5pm - 8pm

Slate Gray Gallery presents Peggy Weiss and a number of her collections, including Friends and Strangers, Hanging in the Balance, Day of the Bed, and Pecos County. Born in Louisiana, Peggy Weiss graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and currently resides in Austin. Her paintings are layers of mixed media, involving acrylic, oil, hand-made stencils, mica powder, gold and silver leaf, sanding and varnishing. Each photograph combines separate images, all charged with emotional textures and threads of imagined short stories—stories that have no beginnings or endings. Today's hybrid techniques and technologies allows her to venture beyond her personal experiences and investigate the stories embedded in the photographs of others, stories that marry memory and make-believe. This work is fueled by memories—a room, a familiar face, another era. Her construct is playful and light for some images, while other times the result is dark, foreboding, and otherworldly.

Joan’s intention with her art is to discover the bridge between form and formless. Her painting process is one of experimentation and discovery. She rarely starts with a predetermined subject in mind, yet often arrives with a painting symbolizing man’s connection to Earth. Joan paints many subjects, yet all her work encompasses a feeling of comfort, healing and a sense of being uplifted.
